Harrogate Male Voice Choir is a group of 50 gentlemen in Harrogate who gather every Tuesday evening (from September to June) to rehearse together in preparation for approximately twelve performances in the year. Their main objectives are to have fun while doing this, to reach for high standards of musical performance and to raise funds for several charities. They are seeking a second accompanist who will support the current accompanist from September 2017 onwards, with a view to sharing the accompanying role equally in due course. The ideal candidate will be someone who is (1) able to make HMVC a priority, (2) has advanced pianistic and good accompanying skills and (3) is capable of playing a wide range of musical styles.
The choir has created this year, a project called “Sing Out”, which is intended to foster close working relationships with local primary school choirs. The inaugural joint concert of this new initiative, on 20th May, was hugely successful and rewarding for all concerned. The new second accompanist will be expected to participate in this project in the future.
The choir has nearly 50 members at present and rehearses at Woodlands Methodist Church Hall, Wetherby Road, Harrogate, HG2 7SG, from 7.30 – 9.30 pm, on Tuesday evenings. The Musical Director is Patrick Lee (since April 2014) and the administration of the choir is undertaken by the main choir committee. The new accompanist should expect to be at all rehearsals (up to 40 per year) and concerts and will be a member of the choir’s Music Committee.
This accompanying position offers an honorarium – details will be discussed with individual candidates when they visit a rehearsal in September.
Interested applicants should send a single-sided letter of application to the Secretary, Mr. Roger Gill, roger.101gill@gmail.com , together with a Curriculum Vitae covering musical background and experience (by Fri. 25th August 2017). Please ensure that a postal address is included.
Shortlisted candidates will be invited to a rehearsal in the middle of September, when they will be asked to accompany the choir for one number which can be prepared in advance (a copy of the music will be sent by post). This is an ideal position for a person of any age, male or female, to learn accompanying skills from an experienced and well qualified musical team. The closing date for applications is Friday 25th August 2017
