Our Next Concert
Scan for tickets. We’re so excited to be performing alongside Duncan, star of Channel 4’s ‘The Piano’

‘Sing Out’
The choir enjoyed a mini concert at Rosset Acre Junior school on the 8th May, followed by a rehearsal with their ‘Singing Squad’ ahead of our Annual concert on 5th July. Thanks to the school for making us so welcome. A lovely way to mark the 80th anniversary of VE Day, with a heartfelt performance of both ‘For the Fallen’ and ‘Let there be peace on Earth’.

Eskdale Festival 2025
HMVC attended the National Choir Day on 12th April, competing against some of the finest choirs in the North. We were delighted with a second place in the MVC class behind Millhouse Green MVC and second in the ‘Song from the shows’ class, narrowly pipped by a very strong Colne Valley MVC. In the evening recital, we achieved a respectable joint third with Colne Valley, with ‘Outstanding’ and ‘Honours’ scores. Our thanks to the organisers for a great day in Whitby.
Sing with us!
Go on, you know you want to…

Following conversations with local Social Prescribers, this flyer is making its way to local surgeries and organisations to ‘sing’ about the health and community benefits of joining a choir.
Look out for our choir flyer!

2025 Update
It’s so easy, it seems, to let the time slip without updating websites. Hence ‘latest news’ soon becomes ‘olds’! With renewed intentions, here are some highlights of the last 6 months:
September/October – Joint concerts
In September we enjoyed a concert at St. James’ C of E Church Wetherby with our friends the Lyrical SoNGbirds from Nottingham , followed by Starbeck Methodist Church in October with the fabulous Ryelarks ladies choir from Pickering. We were thrilled to share repeat concerts with these two impressive choirs.
November/December – Christmas
Our run up to Christmas included performances at Green Hammerton village hall, supported by some excellent local young pianists, followed by a concert at West Park Centre in early December. Both concerts raised much needed funds for good causes, while our traditional Christmas concerts at Pannal Methodist and Woodlands Methodist Churches ensured everybody eased into the Christmas spirit.
January/February – new repertoire, conferences and festivals
The beginning of the year kicked off with the learning of some fresh new repertoire and the annual Harrogate Community Choirs Festival at the Royal Hall. We were thrilled to share the stage with Skipton Choir, The Stray Notes, Knot Another Choir, The Daytones, Ryelarks and Love Pop Choir, proving that choral singing in Harrogate and the surrounding area is indeed thriving. We were relieved that our MD made it back in time for the Festival, having spent the day attending the ‘Peterborough Sings’ Male Voice Choir conference. He returned with plenty of great ideas to implement over the coming months/years.
March/April
Having enjoyed performing at Oatlands Junior schools assemblies in March (ahead of performing with their choir, and another from Rosset Acre Primary, at our annual ‘Sing Out’ concert in July), we now look forward to a daytime concert in aid of Ripon Walled Garden on 4th April, followed by a trip to Whitby to compete in the Eskdale Festival.

Concert 7th June 2024
It’s about time we had a concert! Come and Join us at West Park United Reformed Church for a varied evening of music, 7.30pm on Friday 7th June 2024. Further details below.

2024 so far
While slightly quiet with our announcements, HMVC has has a very successful start to the year: focusing on new repertoire, competing in the Harrogate Competitive Festival (achieving a ‘merit’ performance and coming a close second to Main Street Sound), and taking part in the annual Harrogate Festival of Choirs at the Royal Hall. We thoroughly enjoyed performing alongside our friends from Skipton Choir, Love Pop Choir, Knot Another Choir, The Stray Voices, The Daytones, Yorkshire Voices and St. John Fisher’s Junior School. Sadly, the choir has also had to say a fond farewell to two stalwarts of the choir in recent weeks; Peter Allen and John Dawson.

Upcoming concerts
HMVC now moves its focus to Christmas, with concerts coming up in Green Hammerton, Pannal and Harrogate. See our ‘Hear Us’ page for details of these.

October concert
On 15th October we travelled to Pickering to perform with the fabulous ladies choir The Ryelarks. A great day had by all, performing to a full church and premiering our brand new song, Starlight Song.

2022 at a glance
Our choir has been proactive this past year. We have we have given five concerts’, the last being on the 13th December 2022. Additionally, in April, we competed and performed well in the Eskdale Choir Festival, Whitby.
It has been a milestone year for our choir in as much that we had a joint concert with a lady’s choir from Nottingham called the Lyrical SoNGbirds. This was the first time Harrogate Male Voice Choir had performed in the same concert with a lady’s choir. Similarly, it was the first time that Lyrical SoNGbirds had sung outside their hometown, Nottingham. It was a most enjoyable and successful event which took place at the West Park United Reformed Church, Victoria Avenueand was in aid of Saint Michaels Hospice, Harrogate. We raised a total of £654 for the Hospice.
Our association with The Lyrical SoNGbirds was forged during ‘Lockdown’ when their Musical Director, Ian Watts invited members of HMVC to join Carlton Male Voice Choir (he is also their Musical Director) on their ZOOM sessions, during those difficult times – evidence of the wonderful fellowship within the choral community, where distance has no bounds.
Including the amount raised for Saint Michael’s, a total of £3,492 was raised for various charitable organisations in the year.
HARROGATE MALE VOICE CHOIR IS CONSTANTLY IN RECRUITMENT MODE AND WOULD WELCOME ANY GENTLEMAN WHO ENJOYS SINGING AND WOULD LIKE TO JOIN US AT WOODLANDS METHODIST CHURCH HALL, WETHERBY ROAD, HG2 7SG.
WHEN? EVERY TUESDAY EVENING BETWEEN 7.30PM – 9.30PM FOR REHEARSALS. ON AVERAGE, WE HOLD 10 CONCERTS THROUGHOUT OUR YEAR WHICH LASTS FROM SEPTEMBER TO THE END OF JUNE.
WE ARE A FRIENDLY GROUP OF GENTLEMEN, FROM ALL WALKS OF LIFE AND FIND SINGING AND SOCIALISING VERY ENJOYABLE AND FULFILLING. GOOD FOR ONES’ HEALTH AND WELLBEING!
WHY NOT COME AND TRY IT OUT. PLEASE GIVE LAWRIE COULTHARD A CALL ON 07905515492.
